About Us
In January 2009, India hosted the quadrennial International Montessori Congress for the first time. The 26th International Montessori Congress was held in Kalakshetra Foundation, Chennai over January 5-8, 2009, and brought together over six hundred participants from thirty nine countries. Even as the Congress was being organised, there was a consensus that such an important event should not just be a one-off gathering, but that it should lead to something of lasting value for the country. And with this was born the idea for a pan-Indian Montessori body, the Indian Montessori Foundation.
The Indian Montessori Foundation was setup with the vision of enabling children to reach their full potential through the principles of Montessori Education leading towards a more harmonious and peaceful world.
This, the organisation aims to achieve by:
- Nurturing Montessori principles in schools
- Supporting AMI Montessori training
- Supporting and bringing together AMI Alumni
- Promoting research and development of all aspects of Montessori Education
- Expanding the awareness of Montessori Principles in society
The IMF has as its core a team of trustees who bring with them considerable experience in education and training. The trustees are:

| Anyone wishing to succeed in some aim for the good of society must necessarily turn to the child, not only to save him from deviation, but also to learn from him the practical secret of our own life. From this point of view the figure of the child presents itself as powerful and mysterious, an object of meditation, for the child who holds in himself the secret of our nature becomes our master. |
